DRV5033: hall switch for push button

Part Number: DRV5033
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV5012, DRV5032

Dear Sir,

I want to use DRV5033 as  non-contact push-button, I also use the tool to calculate the shape ,thickness.materials, but it seem DRV5033 sensitivity is not good for push button.

The travel distance is about 1.5mm, ferrite, diameter is 2mm-3mm, 0.5mm-1.0mm thickness.

Can you give me some suggestion for push-button design with TI hall switch?

Best regards.

  • Hello David,

I would recommend looking at the DRV5012 for your design. This device is a low-power latch and it is sensitive only to magnetic field polarity. Since field magnitude is not as important, the magnet can be placed very close to the sensor to produce a compact design. Please see figure below for concept.

  • Dera Harsha,

    Thanks for your support.

In fact, the direction of the ferrite  and hall switch look like this picture. can DRV5012 use this way?  the travel distance only 1.5mm.

    Thanks.

  • Hi David,

No the DRV5012 would require lateral movement of the magnet as shown in my last post. You will likely need a magnet with thickness <<1.5mm to change the output state of the DRV5012 over the 1.5mm travel.

For the orientation you have shown I would recommend looking at the DRV5032ZE which is a low power Hall-effect switch. The ZE has the lowest sensitivity in the DRV5032 family so you can place the magnet close to the sensor.

    Best Regards,
