IWR1642: difference between AWR and IWR parts

What's the difference between the AWR1642 and IWR1642 parts? From the info, it just looks like that the AWR is ASIL compliant.

I assume that all demos made for the xWR1642 will run on the EV boards? We're particaluarlly interested in the vital signs demo and people tracking.

I also assume that just buying an BOOST EV board will be enough to get the the raw range, rad veloicty and angluar information via the USB connection? We have a tracking application in Matlab for another application, so if this data could be pulled via the COM port it would be ideal.

    AWR1642 and IWR1642 are functionally the same, AWR just meets auto qualifications. The demos for IWR will run on AWR boards. The Industrial vital signs demo available on TIREX supports xWR1443 - there is an automotive vital signs demo that supports xWR1642. People Counting supports xWR1642.

    The boost EVM comes out of the box with the "Out of Box" demo, which reports detected points via the COM Port. Each point is given an X,Y,(Z) coordinate, as well as range and doppler indexes, which can easily be converted to range and velocity.

    Thank you very much for your explanation! Are the baseband signals avaalible via the comm port too? The reason I ask, is that for our vitial signs demo, we would need to track several persons at the same time.

    Do you mean raw radar data when you say baseband signals? You could modify existing software to output the raw radar data on the com ports, but the UART does not have enough bandwidth to keep up with typical device operation.  You can purchase a DCA1000 if you are interested in collecting large amounts of raw data.

    Thanks. After looking through your reference design, I see that you look at the relative phase of a selected range bin to determine respiration and heart beat. That should be good enough for our testing.

    On another note: we have a vital signs demo using UWB radar, which works well. However, apart from the obvious difference of FMCW vs UWB, are there any general performance differences that you can comment on? UWB has much better immunity to multipath, and works very well through walls and doors.
