LM96163: I2C address

Part Number: LM96163

Hi Sirs,

Sorry to bother you.

Would you please help me to confirm  that the SMBus address of this thermal sensor IC is 98? (Hex)

The Datasheet as below, we want to confirm, because the following binary conversion feels not 98,
However, our SW team said  it was read as 98.

Please help me to confirm, thank you!

  • Dear Shu-Cheng,

It is correct that the 7 bit address is not same as what is transmitted. With this protocol, broken bytes are not allowed, so an 8th bit is used at the end. It is called the Read/Write bit, and it completes the byte. The complete byte is then sent as: 7 bit address + 1 bit operation function (write or read) - in this case, with this 7 bit address, that it would be correct to send a 0x98 (10011000) for writes and 0x99 (10011001) for reads.
