TMP400: standby mode and OS mode

Part Number: TMP400

Hi team,

Some questions about the standby pin and OS mode.

1. When the standby pin is low, the device is disabled. Is the SMBUS still active?

2. The main difference between the standby mode and OS mode is the standby mode ignore the one shot commend.

But what's the difference between shunt down mode and standby mode?

Lacey

Thanks a lot!

  • Hi Lacey,

Below are the answers to your inquires.

    1. When the standby pin is low, the device is disabled. Is the SMBUS still active?

Yes the SMBUS is still active when standby pin is low.

    2. The main difference between the standby mode and OS mode is the standby mode ignore the one shot commend.

But what's the difference between shunt down mode and standby mode?

One shot mode is when a One-shot command is sent to the device and the device is converting.  After the conversion, the device automatically returns to Shutdown mode.

    Thanks,

  • Hi David,

Thanks so much for your reply!

For the shunt down mode and standby mode, what's the different of power consumption between two modes?

Does the standby mode shunt down more circuits inside the device?

Another question is what's the main purpose for the Standby pin? is there specific application or just intend to save power?

    Lacey

    Thanks a lot!

  • Hi Lacey,

    Below is my feedback.

For the shunt down mode and standby mode, what's the different of power consumption between two modes?

We do not spec the standby mode power consumption, but standby mode power consumption should be similar to shutdown but may vary.

Does the standby mode shunt down more circuits inside the device?

When standby mode in enabled the device shutdowns down the ADC that is used for temperature conversions.

Another question is what's the main purpose for the Standby pin? is there specific application or just intend to save power?
The purpose of the standby pin is to have

The main purpose for the standby pin is to have a pin logic implementation for a power saving mode.  There is no specific application other than the ones specified on the first page of the datasheet.

    Thanks,
