LDC1000EVM: Method of Measuring Rp

Part Number: LDC1000EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LDC1101

Hi, I purchsed LDC1000 EVM. And I have a one question.

I'm not good at English. So I have difficulty in understanding datasheets.

As I understand, LDC1000 EVM requires the maximum, minimum of Rp.

And there's a guide that describe the method how to measure the Rp with other Analyzers.

But, I think it's enough that using only LDC1000 EVM.

if I insert wide range Rp max, min value and move the conductor at the desired distance, than the graph will show the Rp value.

And I can use the graph's result. I can insert Rp max, min value that showed in previous graph.

So, I wonder this method is suitable. and if not suitable, why? and if it's suitable, why the method that using Analyzer is mentioned? Is it more accurate?

 Thank you.

  • Hello User,

Thanks for your interest in LDC parts from TI. I just want to remind you that the LDC1000 is set at Last Time Buy and its in the process of being discontinued. The alternative part to LDC1000 is the LDC1101. Please consider the LDC1101. In regards to your question on the RP measurement using analyzers is highly recommended due to the accuracy. The RP can be viewed as the load on the sensor driver, this land corresponds to the current drive needed to maintain the oscillation amplitude. The position of a target can change RP by a significant amount. Please refer to the figure 49 of the LDC1101datasheet. The value of RP can is used to determine the position of a conductive target. If the value of RP is too low, the sensor driver is not be able to maintain sufficient oscillation amplitude. It's critical that the RP measurement be made accurately.
