LDC1612-Q1: ldc1612's stack coil design

Part Number: LDC1612-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LDC1612

Dear support:

we are designing a displacement sensor using the LDC1612. To reduce temperature impact, we designed a same coil as a reference sensor, the two coils are side by side structure, and the sensor coil sees the target while the reference coil doesn't. But this requires too much PCB space on our system,so we imagine to use the stack coil structure with a 4-layer PCB,layer 1 and layer 2 are the sensor coil while layer 3 and layer 4 are reference coil, using the trade of the two channels' L code as calibration points. Is that a available solution on our system?

  • Hello,

Unfortunately the stacked coil method is not viable for the LDC1612. This is because each coil will see the other as a target, which will significantly reduce the Rp (which in extreme cases may make it impossible for the LDC1612 to drive the coils) and will reduce the sensitivity of the system.

    Best Regards,
