DRV5033-Q1: Question of Design Tool of DRV5033 for N52 Magnet

Part Number: DRV5033-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV5033

Hi Sirs,

My customer is verifying the DRV5033 with the N52 magnet specifications below. Should we enter the parameters of Magnet Materials (N52) of Remanence (4000 Gauss) in the design tool at http://www.ti.com/product/DRV5033/toolssoftware? WHat is product line's recommended equipment setup to verify the flux?

We got different distance result as the pictures below (6.3mm vs 3.58mm). Customer confirmed that the 3.58mm does not work with actual experiment.

Thank you and Best regards,

Wayne Chen

  • Wayne,

I had a look at the specification sent by the customer. The rating that is shown here is not magnetic remanence, but rather field surface strength. These parameters are different. If the customer is using an N52 magnet, the value populated in the calculator is correct (~14600 Gauss).

One thing the specification does not mention (although I did see a loose translation to "wheel magnet"), can you share how the magnet is oriented? Is the magnet magnetized axially (as shown in the calculator), or diametrically (as shown below)?

This may also be causing issue with their setup.

You may also want to have a look at this app note, which gives some great advice on this subject.
