DRV5055-Q1: DRV 5055-Q1 hall effect sensor

Part Number: DRV5055-Q1

hello,

currently  i am using DRV 5055-Q1 hall effect sensor to rotating magnetic field. the magnet is mounted on circular disc and rotates as 3000 rpm. My question is that will it detect  the magnet at 3000 rpm.

  • Hello Joel,

Thank you for using the TI forum.  From your description, it sounds like you have a similar setup to this EVM: http://www.ti.com/tool/DRV5055-ANGLE-EVM

The DRV5055-Q1, has a sensing bandwidth of 20 kHz.  Your magnet is rotating at 3000 revolutions per minute, which is equal to 3000/60=50 revolutions per second.  This means that the sensor can detect 20000/50=400 samples per magnet revolution.

This is greater than one sample per degree of rotation, so this setup should work nicely for you.  Please note that the sensing bandwidth will be lowered if you put an output filter on the device or if you average samples.  Also note that your ADC bandwidth will need to be at least this fast as well.

  • Thank you very much. It really helped me a lot.
