IWR6843: In TI 3D people counting It said Elevation Angle Estimation on ISK may be inacurrate

Would you elaborate what is mean by Elevation Angle Estimation may be inaccurate on the 3D people counting firmware ?

It is due to the capon instead of using FFT ? Any plan TI to fix it, or a limitation of h/w not enough resource to do the computation ?
Or how it should be fixed ?

Hi Casey,

This is related to the antenna array - there are two vertical Rx antennas on ISK, compared to 4 on ODS - so ODS will be twice as accurate in Elevation given the exact same signal as an ISK.

I believe both ISK and ODS got 4 RX antenna and 3TX antenna ? Are u referring to virtual antenna in vertical direction ?
Is that ISK means IWR6843ISK only, but not IWR6843ISK-ODS ? They both named ISK.
And I believe I read another thread which I cannot find now, it mentioned that there is a race in elevation detection for multiple objects.

Just to make sure that if there is anything that known not working properly or not optimal in the firmware side.

Hi Casey,

Both EVMs have 4 Rx and 3 Tx, as they are the same device - however, the antenna patterns are different, which results in a different number of Virtual Rx antennas in each azimuth and elevation plane. There will always be 12 virtual Rx on the 6843.

You are going to need to read some of our collateral to understand why the ISK and ODS have different antenna patterns, and how these antenna patterns effect range and angular accuracy.
