AWR1243: The watchdog bug fix in MMWAVE DFP 2

Part Number: AWR1243
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR2243,

Hello,

I'm using four AWR1243Ps in cascade and having trouble with the phenomenon that the WARM_RESET PIN toggles repeatedly.

The MSS firmware on AWR1243P I'm using is included in MMWAVE DFP 01.02.05.01.

I have found the following in the Release Notes for MMWAVE DFP 02.01.05.03 for the AWR2243 and guess that this may be related to my problem.

3 Release Contents
  3.2 Feature/Changes List by Components
3.2.2 Master SS firmware (DFP 2.0.3 – compared to DFP1.2/AWR1243)
      Type:Bug
      Key:MMWAVE_DFP-62
Summary:Fixed device is being resetting repeatedly due to Watchdog expiration.

Could you answer my questions below about this bug?

Q.1 Does this bug (MMWAVE_DFP-62) also occur in AWR1243P (MSS firmware of MMWAVE DFP 01.02.05.01)?

If the answer to Q.1 is yes:

Q.2 Is the WARM_RESET PIN toggling when "resetting" occurs in this bug?

Q.3 Please let me know the conditions under which this bug occurs.

Q.4 Please let me know if there is the workaround for this bug.

Thank you,

Sakamoto

  • Hi Sakamoto,

The issue that was solved in the MMWAVE DFP 02.01.05.03 is not there in DFP 01.02.05.01.

Can you please send the mmwave studio output log file and the trace file for us to serve you better?

    Regards,

    Ishita

  • Hi Sakamoto,

Can you provide answers to the following questions to help us serve you better:

    1. When are you facing the WARM RESET pin toggling issue? After SOP set (which SOP mode are youusing?) or firmware download or any other step that you followed in your sequence

    2. Can you probe the supply pin and check if that is also fluctuating with warm reset

    Regards,

    Ishita

  • Hello Ishita,

    Thank you for your reply.
I understood that MMWAVE_DFP-62 does not occur in AWR1243P.
I use my own system and do not use the mmwave studio, so I cannot send a log file and a trace file.

    > 1. When are you facing the WARM RESET pin toggling issue? After SOP set (which SOP mode are youusing?) or firmware download or any other step that you followed in your sequence

The SOP mode I use is SOP1 (Functional Mode).
The WARM RESET pin toggling issue occurs at various timings.
I also explained this timing in the following question.
    https://e2e.ti.com/support/sensors/f/1023/t/881688

    =========================================================

I observed that the WARM_RESET toggles not only while chirping is active (ie after the function : rlSensorStart).
The flow until my AWR1243Ps run chirp is as follows.
     1. The DC Power On
     2. The SOP Pins On
     3. The nReset Pins On (using rlDevicePowerOn or rlDeviceAddDevices)
     4. The chip configuration by functions of mmWaveLink
     5. Executing rlSensorStart
     6. The external host sends a pulse to the SYNC_IN pins on AWR1243Ps continuously
I observed the WARM_RESET toggles on any of the above 2 ~ 6.
The toggle frequency is especially high between 6.

I will try this and update you when I get any information.

    Thank you,

    Sakamoto

  • Hello Ishita,

I have a question about probing the supply pin.

    > 2. Can you probe the supply pin and check if that is also fluctuating with warm reset

AWR1243P has several power supply pins.
I want to narrow down the pins I probe.
What is the supply pin you mentioned?

    Thank you,

    Sakamoto

  • Hi Sakamoto-San,

Is it possible to have RS232 RX/TX line or JTAG connected to AWR device on your board to read some of debug data?

Please refer the device datasheet and find if you can probe these two interfaces.

    Regards,

    Jitendra

  • Hello Jitendra-San,

Thank you for your helpful advice.
On my board, I can connect externally to RS232 RX/TX pins on AWR1243P only.
    I will try this first.

    Thank you,

    Sakamoto
