DRV5056: Supply current distribution

Part Number: DRV5056

Hi Team,

Asking for your inputs on our customer's query. The application is limited to a supply current of ~6.25mA. Having the DRV5056 supply current of 6-10mA, he wants to check for a distribution curve (similar to the below graph) which would show the supply current to be expected in a batch of devices.

This information would allow them the option of selecting devices with the nominal current value required (assuming the yield was reasonable). Do we have this information for DRV5056 or on the other hall sensors? We've checked on 5055 and 5057 and find that the characteristics were quite the same.

Kind Regards,

Jejomar

  • Jejomar,

Sorry.  There is not a distribution curve available that I can share with you.  I understand the concern regarding the supply budget.  Even with a typical unit, this would be very tight at room temperature (6.25 mA at 20C).  We can also expect that this will continue to rise as the system heats, which will further constrain the system.

Can you share more about the customer application?  Perhaps there would be a possible solution that could use a switch or latch which would make it easier to meet current demand requirements?

  • Hello Scott,

Thank you for looking into this. Unfortunately our customer's application requires a ratiometric hall device as they need to calibrate the switch points so a hall switch or latch might not be suitable. Can you advise alternate solutions? We would really appreciate it.

    Kind Regards,

    Jejomar

  • Jejomar,

Perhaps consider using the DRV5053.  The operating supply current is listed at 2.7 mA with a maximum of 3.6 mA.

    Thanks,

    Scott
