HDC2010METER-EVM: Programming the MCU

Hello,

I figured I would use a JTAG programmer on this EVM but it doesn't look like the JTAG pins are conveniently available: pin 12 = TDO; pin 13 = TDI; 14 = TMS; 15 = TCK; pin 37/48 = VREF (VCC)

I was planning to use a Xilinx JTAG programmer but now I'm not so sure that's a good idea.

I soldered a 4-pin header in place at J1 thinking that was the JTAG interface. But it's a two wire Spy-by-Wire interface.

Can I use my Xilinx JTAG programmer? If no, can you point me to the correct JTAG and/or SBW programmer?

Hi Crag,

Spy-by-Wire (SBW) is the debug interface for MSP430. You'll need an MSP430 debugger. Every MSP430 LaunchPad has a compatible debugger on-board. You can remove the jumpers on the LaunchPad and wire the debugger to your HDC2010METER-EVM. The stand-alone MSP Debugger costs quite a bit more than a typical LaunchPad, but is also an option. Ren,

I may have an MSP430 LaunchPad in the office. I'll check when I go in next. At home I have EK-TM4C123GXL. spmu296 seems to indicate this could be compatible? It say LaunchPad on the box but obviously it's not the MSP430.

Unfortunately, it needs to be an MSP430 LaunchPad. The TM4C devices use a different interface for their debugger.

Me again. Would an HDC1080EVM work? It's got the MSP430F5528 on it. And I see holes for pins SBWTDIO and SBWTCK right next to the MPS430.

Unfortunately the HDC1080EVM is in the same boat as the HDC2010METER-EVM. It doesn't have a debugger on-board. You could use a debugger to reprogram the HDC1080EVM at the SBW pins.
