[FAQ] Remote Temperature Sensors — What is n-factor?

Remote Temperature Sensors — What is n-factor?

  • The η-factor or ideality factor, of a Bipolar Junction Transistor (BJT) can be considered to be the measure of how closely a BJT follows the ideal equation (shown below).  An ideal BJT has a η-factor = 1.000, but in a non-ideal world this is not the case. Most remote temperature sensors default η-factor setting is 1.008 or 1.000 depending on the remote temperature sensor. If the remote BJT’s η-factor does not equal the default value then the n-factor correction register will have to be used to compensate for this discrepancy.
