LDC1000EVM: About GUI version differences

Part Number: LDC1000EVM

Hi,

Our customers refer to the following application notes.
And they are evaluating.
LDC1000 LDC1001 LDC1041 LDC1051Evaluation module.pdf
LDC1000LDC1041LDC1051 Evaluation Module snau150a.pdf
LDC1000EVM Quick Start Guide.pdf

Then, could you tell me the difference between "Inductive Sensing GUI" and "Sensing Solutions EVM GUI".

Q1:
"Inductive Sensing GUI" has a resonance frequency of 20% or less. Is this setting unnecessary in "Sensing Solutions EVM GUI"?

Q2:
I understand that the adjustment method of Rp_MAX and Rp_MIN is the same in "Inductive Sensing GUI" and "Sensing Solutions EVM GUI".
Is that correct?

Q3:
What frequency of the sensor coil is measured by Proximity, Rp, and Frequency Inductance in “measurements” of “Sensing Solutions EVM GUI”?
Is it the point of maximum resonance frequency of the sensor coil? Or is it the point of the maximum frequency x 0.8?
The coil used is "46mm, 40 turns, 8mil trace, 6mil spacing, 4 layers" in the file below.

  • Hello Yuto,

Can you clarify which device your customer is evaluating? We may have an updated part that would be a better fit.

The Sensing Solutions GUI is the current version of the GUI and should be used for the LDC1000EVM. The Inductive Sensing GUI is out of date and should not be used.

    1) Yes, this is unneeded.

    2) Yes, the adjustment of Rp_min and Rp_max is the same in both GUIs.

    3) In the Sensing Solutions GUI, the measurement data is calculated from the raw data read from the LDC1000. The GUI uses the equations in the datasheet and the user inputs (such as the sensor capacitor value and the reference frequency) to calculate the sensor inductance, Rp, and frequency. If the user-controlled values are input correctly, the data is should match the exact physical values of the sensor. The LDC10xx devices always make measurements at the resonant frequency of the sensor.

    Best Regards,
