The Demonstration Video of the IWR6443 Long Range People Detection is totally identical with that of the 6843 Long Range People Detection.

Is there anything wrong ?

You should record a new video since you use the new chip and the new method (HWA-only).

Hi,

The 50 meter chirps are the same in both demos. The 100m chirp has less chirp loops in the 64xx demo when compared to the 68xx demo, as there is a memory limit in the HWA based signal chain.

The algorithms are both the same. One uses HWA for most signal chain computation, one uses DSP - however the formula for each step is the same.

I still have two questions.

1. About the beamforming, could the HWA-only IWR6443 demo use the beamforming ? or, it didn't use the beamforming at all ? Since there is no DSP involved， I doubt if the beamforming is applicable.

2. Could you please record a new demonstration video of the HWA-only IWR6443 ?

Hi,

Yes, the 6443 still has beamforming. You will see the beamforming chirp has less chirp loops, as there is a limit in memory size of the HWA.

So, if I want to detect and track multiple people simultaneously up to 100m away, I don't need to use the DSP at all, right ?

Hi,

From my testing, reliable detection for the IWR6443 was typically 80 meters, with the exception of people at 0 degrees, where 100 meters was achievable. See the detection range table in the user's guide.

The IWR6443 uses HWA for all processing, which means there is a memory limitation on radar data size for the beamforming chirp. This limits the number of chirp loops, which lower integration time. Lower integration time equals lower SNR, so at most angles detection range is a bit lower on IWR6443.
