LMP91002: question on Toxic Gas detector design: which is better TIDA-00854 or LMP 91002? Pros and Cons. (procurement stability, ways to adjust to different toxic sensors )

Part Number: LMP91002
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIDA-00854

HI,

We are interested in using TI reference design TIDA-00854 or LMP91002, and having following questions to decide how to start the further direction.

  1. Would you please advise us which is better direction between TIDA -00854 design and LMP91002 one chipset solution?

- Which way is more reliable in performance and stable in procurement?

Is LMP91002 under main production or just in pilot status?

  1. The test of your design (TIDA-00854, Micropower Electrochemical Gas Sensor Amplifier Reference Design) and the application Information of LMP91002 including sensor test procedure are showing your tests with CO gas. Do you have test results of other gases and provide us the results if we start the development with any of the above two solutions?
  2. Does any of the above two solutions can allow the adjustment for different toxic gases or for other electrochemical sensor only by firmware adjustment without changing Hardware or circuit?

Is it possible to adjust the OP-AMP Gain and Offset by firmware programming without modifying the circuits like BIAS or ADC?   This question is important as we proceed the certificates and approvals like SIL2, FM, EN, Ex-Proof in order not to change our hardware after the approvals.

  1. EVM Board: Is EVM board available for each solution?

Thank you for your kind advice in advance.

  • Tony,

Both options are good options. The TIDA-00854 will require a little more work and design effort to use. Basically this option is built using discrete circuitry to demonstrate how a user could build there own gas sensor circuit.

The LMP91002, is an IC level solution with the control interface built in using I2C and a single output to an ADC. This option has software to help you get up and running faster.

I prefer the LMP91002, but that is just me. The TIDA-00854 will allow you more flexibility if you need to tweak something, and the LMP91002 is more defined.

Read all of the documentation both, the knowledge from both sets of material will help to on either solution you select.

  • Thank you very much, Gortdon.

It is helpful for us to know the basic difference of both solution.

We will read more documents about these two solutions.

    Best regards,

    Tony
