IWR1642: Why not use IWR1642 for new designs?

Part Number: IWR1642
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: IWR1843, , IWR1443, IWR6443, IWR6843

Hi,

In a previous thread (https://e2e.ti.com/support/sensors/f/1023/t/930996) it was said that the IWR1642 is not recommended for new designs, but rather to use IWR1843. Why is that?

Thanks!

  • Hello,

Just to be clear as on today IWR1443, IWR1642, IWR1843 are devices which are in production and recommended to user based on application needs.

Above devices are targeted for 76-81Ghz range.

Equivalent of these devices in 60-64Ghz range are IWR6443 and IWR6843, these provide  processing capability equivalent to 77GHz portfolio devices (IWR1443 and IWR1843).

This allows the customer to reuse/port application between the two RF bands based with minimal : Refer:  Migrating to xWR68xx and xWR18xx Millimeter Wave (Rev. B)

Application developed on IWR1843 (76-81Ghz) can be easily ported to IWR6843 (60-G4Ghz) device, this allowing application to comply with regulation compliance for different regions of world.

    IWR1642

Please check TI's  Industrial mmWave Device products page to compare the RF features and processing capability of these devices.

    Hope that helps.

    Thank you,

    Vaibhav
