OPT3006: OPT3006 Function influence of the sensor cutout area

Part Number: OPT3006

Hello, There are several questions need to confirm:

1, Per the OPT3006, there are 16 black rectangle blocks on the bottom side, if  the sensor function independently, considering the SMT alignment , if only 2~4 blocks exposed. if the function will be ok?

2,We need to dispense underill glue to waterproof the sensor, as the pad is so close to the cutout edge, there will be glue overflow to the slot area, the underfill will influent the function, What is the minimum size of exposured area except for the overflow? Is transparent underill glue works if we dispense the whole cutout area? Or do you have any recommend method?

3, Is there any inspection standard regarding to the foreign partical in the cutout area of the sensor?

Appreciate for your reply. Thanks you very much!

  • Hi Bright,

    1) The device response will be proportional to the sensor area illuminated. For example, if 4 blocks out of 16 are illuminated this is 25% of the area and if you were to shine 100lux on the sensor we would expect the sensor to read 25 lux.

    2) If you can provide an image of this I may be able to help on this point further. Currently having trouble understanding from the explanation provided.

    3) We have a section in the data sheet (Dos and Don'ts) cover some of this. As this is an optical sensor, visual inspection can determine the sensor area that is blocked by contaminants. Contamination directly impacts the sensor result proportionally to the area obstructed. We recommend keeping the sensor area visually clear.

    Best,
