Why the difference ramp rate between 60GHz chip and 77GHz chip

Hi community member,

I saw mmwave IC's datasheets (IWR1443, IWR1843, IWR6443, IWR6843).

According to these datasheet, the each ramp rate is as below:

IWR1443, IWR1843(77GHz) : Max 100MHz/us
IWR6443, IWR6843(60GHz) : Max 250MHz/us

Is it the reason that IWR6xxx(60GHz) is newer devices than IWR1xxx?
I'm interested in why is the difference.

Yes. It is safe to say that these are design improvements included in IWR68xx series of devices.

If the slope faster, I think the chirp cycle is faster, so mmwave radar is more accurate.

Hello

Effect of slope in sensing can be checked with FMCW equations and there may be different traadeoffs in chirp prams available to achieve/meet the sensing requirements.

Please let us know if you need further help with specific sensing needs across two devices.
