TMP275: Temperature update frequency

Part Number: TMP275
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMP1075

Please tell me.

Is it correct to understand that the temperature is updated every Conversion Time when used in Comparator Mode?

Does changing the Converter Resolution change the frequency of temperature updates?

Also, is there a way to tell from the software if the temperature has been updated.

  • Hi user,

Yes, the temperature is updated every Conversion Time when SD=0.

Yes, the resolution controls the frequency. Older x75 products, like TMP275, continuously make Conversions. Each conversion is longer to get more bits of accuracy, so the update rate is reduced. Newer products, such as TMP1075, are able to achieve 12 bits or more in significantly less time. The TMP1075 saves power while updating at the same rate as older x75 sensors, because it goes into a low power state in between conversions. (TMP1075 datasheet Figure 18)

No, there isn't an indication that a conversion has been completed. You could look for a change in the temperature register, but it's possible for consecutive measurements to be the same. You could trigger all of your measurements using the OS bit if you need to know when the measurement occurred.

    thanks,
