FDC2214: FDC2214EVM or FDC2214PROXSEN-EVM

The FDC2214EVM can accommodate other sensors by breaking off the sensor part of the EVM board and connecting to other sensors with jumpers.
It also provides access to the output data.

The other EVM does not provide access to the output data.

It is hard to say of the two boards will have different performance in your system since overall behavior depends on the sensors, and he device settings.

I wonder if i can achieve a proximity sensing distance of 50cm with this FDC2214EVM ,using a large area sensor .

and I saw your staff reply in another post "The algorithm described in the above application note is implemented in the FDC2214PROXSEN-EVM, but this is the only significant difference between the two EVMs' firmware. The FDC2214EVM also has smaller sensors than the FDC2214PROXSEN-EVM, but they can still be used for proximity sensing. You can learn more about the typical relationship between sensor size and sensing distance in this application note."

as he said,there is not an algorithm in the FDC2214EVM, which can help achieve larger proximity sensing distance, right ? Can I think that this FDC2214EVM is not up to the performance requirement I want ？

there is any other device selection that can meet my requirement including both a long distance and getting output data？

The computational algorithms are the same for the two boards.

While we are experts in our devices, it is very difficult to make recommendations about the larger systems they will fit into, because we are not experts in those systems.

The best way to determine if your 50cm range is possible is to try some experiments with different sensors and device settings, and see if it gets you the results you are looking for.

Be aware that our FDC2x1x series does not have active shield drivers. which can make applications with those devices more susceptible to outside interference. 

If that will be a problem with your application, please consider using the FDC1004 device.

Why is your response different from the answer given by another expert in another question?  now i cannot figure out which of you is right.

i have bought an FDC2214EVM from TI , and I'd like to test it with some larger sensors such as a large cooper plate. Do I need to manually change the configuration of registers in the EVM when testing with different sensors?

Some changes to the device registers will most likely be needed when you change sensors.
