I am looking to create a demo displaying the temperature on the MSP430FR6989 LCD screen.  Currently I am testing this sensor at home and comparing it to a ThermPro digital thermometer I have.

it can be difficult to make accurate temperature measurements in atmosphere. Additionally, the most common temperature transducer used in the market is the thermocouple, which generally has a +/-2.2C specification. 

However, I agree with your intuition that 5C may be pushing it. Do you have a board configuration that would cause high current consumption? Are your logic levels correct?

Thanks for getting back.  Our board configuration is using the BASSENSORS BP on top of the MSP430FR6989, and the TMP116 is placed fairly offboard, so I did not believe there would be a hot spot.  In terms of logic levels, which are you referring to?

For another update, we tested it using sealed ice next to the TMP116, and it was still reading at 9 celcius

Last update, we switched the configuration to one-shot conversion mode and that has solved our issue.  Thanks for the help!

Hi Domenick,

I'm looking for a current path through the TMP116 that would cause it to heat locally. The TMP_LMT_V+ net on BoosterPack pin 28 must be set high to power the TMP116. This voltage should be 3.3V.

Is it possible you've damaged your TMP116 with ESD? 

Have you observed this behavior on another TMP116?

Hi Domenick,

It's true that conversions do cause temperature rise in TMP116, but it should be less than 1C of temperature rise even at the fastest conversion rate.
