TMCS1101: NC Pin

Part Number: TMCS1101

Hello,

Seems like an odd question to ask, but is there any downside to leaving the NC pin on TMCS1101 floating? The datasheet's Pin Functions table mentions that TI recommends to connect this pin to GND but does not elaborate.

Thank you,

Carter

  • Hello Carter,

Thanks for considering to use Texas Instruments. Yes you can float the NC pin or tie any voltage between ground and supply.  The recommendation for shorting to ground is that there may be some capacitive coupling from this pin to the other circuitry in the device.  While we expect this coupling to be rather insignificant, if there is some large transient on this pin, there is a much greater possibility of it disrupting the circuit operation than if the NC is shorted to ground.
