LM75A: Absolute rating of Tj max

Part Number: LM75A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMP117, TMP116

Hi Team,

There is a question of LM75A. In the datasheet, recommended operating conditions of TJ temp range is -55C~125C.

What's the absolute maximum ratings of Tj Max?  Can we support Tj max up to 150C?

Thank you.

  • Hi Lilian,

No variant of 75 can report a temperature above 127C. The way the data is encoded in 8 bits won't allow it.

Further, I can't make any promises beyond the datasheet specifications.

Here's a list of I2C temperature sensors with 150C operating range. The TMP116 also supports 150C operation, but accuracy is not guaranteed above 125C. TMP116 is a lower cost version of our flagship sensor TMP117.

  • Hi Ren,

Thanks for your reply, I understand that LM75 can't work at temp over 127.  But my customer's question is if the LM75 Tj junction temp can accept 125~150C but device will not be damaged?  they don't need LM75 working at 125~150.

In the datasheet, our recommended operation rating of Ta range is -55~125. For my understanding, when the Ta=125C, Tj will be 150C around?  right?

    Thank you.

  • Hi Lilian,

For temperature sensor, we expect Ta=Tj. The sensor does not consume significant power to raise it's internal temperature. If it did, it would not be a very good sensor.

    thanks,
