IWR1642: IWR1642 liquid nitrogen

Part Number: IWR1642

Dear Sir.

I am testing with IWR1642BOOST EVALUATION BOARD

The monitoring program used the High Accuracy Visualizer provided by TI.

Experimented with water and liquid nitrogen as shown in the picture.

The water height can be measured as 1000mm, but liquid nitrogen is displayed as 1300mm.
The height of the liquid nitrogen cannot be measured and the height of the bottom of the case is measured.

Is it possible to measure the level of liquid nitrogen with the IWR1642BOOST?

If possible, please tell me how.

Any advice that may be helpful is appreciated.

thanks.

  • Hi Lee

Unfortunately the dielectric constant is very low which makes it very difficult to detect outright. According to this table the dielectric constant for air is very close to that of liquid nitrogen (1 vs 2), whereas there is large difference between the dielectric constants of water and liquid nitrogen (81 vs 2). You will want to either alter the detection environment or significantly increase tx power of the mmWave Sensor.

    Regards,

    AG

  • Dear sir.

    Thank you for your reply.

However, I must successfully measure the level of liquid nitrogen.

Please let me know if there is any way to increase tx power with IWR1642BOOST

Any advice that can be helpful, such as register setting and antenna circuit design change, would be appreciated.

    thanks.
