When I only output data to CAN ,the power consumption is about 2.208W . But when I only output data to USB , the power consumption is about 3.576W.

Q1: Why the USB power consumption higher than CAN 50% ?

Q2: Is possible disable CAN by firmware ?

Hi cesar,

We have a product that just use USB bus to output data , so we want to disable CAN bus for reduce power consumption.

Hello Allen,

If you do not explicitly enable the CAN output it will not consume any additional current, so there should be no need to disable CAN. Just make sure you do not enable it in your code and that is all that is needed.

Are you doing these measurements on the AWR1843BOOST or is this a custom board?

Hello Allen,

Do you have an MCU on your board for sending the USB data? The AWR device should not have much difference in power consumption for sending data over CAN versus UART. I think there must be some other components on your board that are resulting in the large power increase when using USB.

Hello Adrian,

Yes,the power consumption of CAN and USB on the AWR1843BOOST board is really not much different.

I will check which components on our board cause the USB power consumption to increase.
