FDC2214: Measurement of capacitance

Part Number: FDC2214
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: FDC1004

Hi team,

Customer is looking for the solution to measure the capacitance between several pF and several thousand pF.

Our customer is considering FDC solution and our captivate solution with MSP430.

Could you kindly advise the difference between FDC(LDC) solution and captivate solution ? and which solution would be matched ?

Thank you and best regards,

Michiaki

  • Michiaki,

If the customer can reduce their measurement range to a little more than 100pF, they could use the FDC1004.
The FDC1004 has the advantage of an active shield driver to reduce system sensitivity to EMI.

If EMI won't be a concern, or if they can implement EMI resistance thru other means, they can consider the FDC2x1y family.
That FDC2x1y family will support a max capacitance of 250nF, which is more in-line with the stated measurement range.
Note that the FDC2x1y does not have the active shield driver feature, so that will not be an EMI suppression option for this family of parts.

The FDC1004 and the FDC2x1y devices have full EVMs and supporting EVM GUI software.

There are also FAQ documents with comprehensive lists of app notes and tech notes, and reference designs to help guide the customer in the use of the parts, the design and use of their system.

The FAQ documents are on the E2E/Sensing landing page can be seen on these items/links: FDC2x1y_FAQsFDC1004_FAQs , LDC_FAQs
