BOOSTXL-TUSS4470: SPI Clock Clarification

Part Number: BOOSTXL-TUSS4470
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSS4470,

Hi Team,

Our customer would like to clarify about the SPI clock rate of TUSS4470. Section 6.10 of the datasheet shows the maximum SPI bit rate at 500kHz. Is this specification also the SPI clock rate?

Asking this as the BOOSTXL-TUSS4470 user guide states that the board can be operated with an SPI clock of up to 8MHz, with 1MHz as default. And our customer tested the boosterpack at 8MHz, which indeed works. Does this makes the TUSS4470 datasheet incorrect?

Thanks in advance!

Kind Regards,

Jejomar

  • Hello Jejomar,

The SPI clock rate and SPI bit rate are not the same thing. The clock rate indicates the speed at which the SPI clock can be ran and the bit rate indicates at which rate at which the information is passed between the master and slave. Below you can see a screen capture of a SPI transaction. In this instance the clock is at 1MHz = 1000ns per period, and MOSI and MISO are at 500kHz = 2us per period.

    Best,

    Isaac
