DRV5055: ACS781 replace

Part Number: DRV5055
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMCS1101, TMCS1100, TMCS1107, TMCS1108

Hi Team,

DRV5055 can replace Allegro ACS781? or TI have other hall sensor solution? thaks!

ACS780xLR: High-Precision Linear Hall-Effect-Based Current Sensor (allegromicro.com)

  • DRV5055 may be able to detect the magnetic field from a current carrying conductor, but is typically meant for detecting the magnetic fields from permanent magnets.  The challenge this type of device will have is that the field is dependent on the location of the sensor relative to the current carrying trace.  Installation and PCB variances can have an impact.  I would anticipate that it would require a fairly large amount of current to produce the fields that are needed for DRV5055.

ACS781 is meant for measuring current and has the current path integrated into the device.  This will make the device more reliable for current measurements.  Instead of DRV5055, I might suggest considering TMCS1100, TMCS1101, TMCS1107, or TMCS1108.  These devices are meant to monitor current in a more similar fashion to ACS781.
