Thermal ressponcse of LMT87-Q1

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMT87-Q1, LMT86-Q1, LMT87

Hello,

I'm trying to replace NTC Thermistor with LMT series and customer requests me the Thermal response information.

Attached file is "NTC Thermistors Summary" from TDK Corporation and page 3 has information of "HEATING TIME CONSTANT".

Please supply same kinds of  thermal response information of LMT87-Q1.

Best Regards.

  • Hello,

Please anyone respond to my question above.

    Best Regards.

  • Hi Tushio,

We are working on a reply - sorry about the delay. When do you need a reply?

    Take care,

  • Hi Tushio,

Please ask the customer if thermal response time in stirred oil would provide them the information they need?

The information you supplied does say how this is measured. Also the pcb layout plays a major roll.

    Thank you.

    Take care,

  • Hello, Emmy-san,

    Thank you for your reply.

I will ask customer what condition they need about Thermal Response.

    Best Regards.

  • Hi Toshio-san,

I will wait for your reply then...

    Take care,

  • Hello Emmy-san,

Customer wants thermal response time in the air as follows.

    1) Response time when the air temperature changes from 25 degree C to 80 degree C

    2) Response time when the air temperature changes from 80 degree C to 25 degree C

They also request to measure response time of thermistor that has same characteristics with customer is using.

They need to compare response time to judge if they can replace thermistor with TI temperature sensor.

(Manufacture does not provide thermal response data for SMD chip type thermistor because it has fast response.)

( I will send thermistor if you need.)

Followings are example of thermistor they are using.

         -SMD type chip thermistor

         -1005 size(1mm x 0.5mm x 0.5mm)

         -Manufacture(example)

           TDK NTCG series: http://www.tdk.co.jp/tefe02/eb221_ntcg.pdf

           Mitsubishi Material TH05 series: http://www.mmc.co.jp/adv/dev/english/contents/thermistor/onboard/th.html

Please answer if you can provide above data.

     Best Regards.

  • Toshio-san,

It is difficult for us to measure response time in air - so I'm not sure how successful we would be. It is much easier for us to send you information for stirred oil. We would be happy to test the thermistor as well in stirred oil. Then a comparison can be made. The PCB layout also has a lot to do with the response time. Please send thermistor you would like tested.

I will send you the address via email.

    Take care,

  • Hello Emmy-san,

Thank you for your quick response.

I am asking customer if stirred oil is OK for their requirement and I will inform you the results.

Could you explain how to change the temperature in an instant in air and stirred oil, and why in air is difficult ?

( I want to know to explain to customer.)

    Best Regards.

  • Hello Emmy-san,

Customer agreed to test in stirred oil.

I will send sample thermistors so please measure and make comparison with LTM87-Q1.

    Regards.

  • Hello Emmy-san,

    I had meeting with customer.

       - LMT86-Q1 meet cutomer requirement(not LMT87-Q1) so please measure comparison data using thermistor and LMT86-Q1.

       - I get sample thermistors and will ship to you next week.

       - Please answer following questions form customer.

    Q1: Question for Figure 2 of LMT86-Q1 datasheet(SNIS169A).

Dose this figure expresses maximum error of each temperature ?

Q2: Temperature distribution data of Temperature Error

Please give me the distribution data of temperature error at some temperature.

For example -50 degree, 25 degree and 150 degree.

    Best Regards.

  • Here are the answers to your questions:

Q1 - no the guaranteed maximum is +/-2.7C like it shows on page 4 under "ACCURACY CHARACTERISISTICS" in the LMT87 datasheet.

Q2- Please look for my email directly to you.

Thank you for sending the sample thermistors and all of your help with this customer!

    Take care,
