Using LDC1614 on lvdt sensor?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LDC1614
Hello everyb
most posts here is about how to using ldc series to measure distance
I am wondering ,if i can use ldc1614 on  lvdt sensor?  to get a exact linear positon?
now I use ad698 chip,to condition the lvdt sensor.
maybe the ldc1614 can also do that.
thanks!
  • Hello DF,

Using an LDC device instead of an LVDT is indeed possible, but you would need to modify the sensor design. Also, keep in mind that the outputs from the LDC are digital, rather than the phase/amplitude outputs you would get from an LDC.

  • hello chris:
    Thanks for your reply.
I mean, using ldc chip as the lvdt intereface circuit, instead of traditionl amplitude modulation circuit.
when the lvdt core is moving, the mutual inductance of first coil and secondary coil will change.
My question is ,using LDC chip,we can get the LVDT mutual L changing?
If so,we can get the linear distance change.
  • Hello DF,
after adding a parallel capacitor to the coil to ensure oscillation within the LDC operating limits, inductance changes can be measured by the LDC. Therefore, your current coil design may already work with an LDC. However, I do not currently have any data on using an LDC as a replacement for LVDT ICs.

Two alternative approaches for linear position sensing are described in this application note: www.ti.com/.../snoa931.pdf
