AWR1642: Low Power Operation

Part Number: AWR1642

As battery life will be a concern in our application, we’d be interested in any power saving options that might be available. We’ve been looking into powering the radar off when not needed, which seems to hold some promise, but doesn’t seem practical for frame rates greater than 2-3 FPS. We’d prefer to not incur the delay in booting the radar chip for every frame, if other reasonable options exist. Are there other xWR1642 power saving measures that can be used while it isn’t actively processing data?

Thanks,
Mark

  • Hello Mark,
When the AWR1642 is not chirping /framing the power consuming blocks like the RF chain is turned OFF for saving the power. Rest of the system are not in the low power mode.
For 50% duty-cycle, low-power ADC mode would save about 160mW average.

The R4F of the AWR1642 do not support any low power modes/standby modes . There are no other power saving modes possible other than the above mentioned .

    Thanks,
    Raghu
