DDC118: Cascading Converters Questions

Part Number: DDC118

I'd like to cascade two DDC118 chips but Figure 21 "Daisy-Chained DDC118s" in the datasheet only shows the serial data line connections.  What does one do with the DValid and Conv signals (or any others that may be affected by daisy-chaining)?  I assume the two Conv pins must be connected together so the chips remain in sync.  Which DValid pin should be looked at before reading the data out?  They appear to drive both ways (i.e. not open-drain) so cannot be connected together.

Unrelated question - I only have 12 photodiodes to measure and 16 inputs available across the 2 chips.  How should unused analog inputs be connected?

Any app notes available for this chip (or other chips in the series) for either single or cascade use?

  • Hello Steve,

For the daisy-chain application, the CONV signal from the host can be shorted to both the DDC118 devices.
Assuming the CLK signal is synchronous to both the devices, you can choose the DVALID from either of the DDC devices.
Regarding the unused inputs, you can leave them open.
There are no separate application notes for this device or other devices in this family.
