AWR1243BOOST: How to calculate SNR as shown in equation (2) of application note swra553

Part Number: AWR1243BOOST

Hi mmWave Champs,

in the application note "Programming Chirp Parameters in TI Radar Devices" the radar equation is shown:

Could you please provide an example calculation assuming the AWR1243BOOST board, a typical radar frame and a typical RCS (e.g. 10m2).

Thanks,

Peter.

  • Hello Peter,

If we compute the SNR on each receiver this is got by the formula below.

If we take an RCS of 10m2 , our typical TX output power is 12dBm (ie 0.015 W). The TX antenna gain with some trace losses is roughly 7.8 dB (6 in linear scale)  and Rx antenna gain is roughly 8db (8 in linear scale). If we take an acitive frame time of 5 msec (128 chirps , 256 samples at 10Msps and some idle time). Typical Noise figure is ~15.

At a distance of 100m the SNR in dB scale is ~16.3 dB. This is for a single receiver.

    Regards,

    Vivek
