HDC2010EVM: Humidity data is not linear at over 60-%.

Hello E2E,

Our customer have two EVM. They are evaluating now them. However, two EVMs output data are not look like for normaly.

No.1-EVM;
At over 60-% humidity, the output data is less than ambient.

No.2-EVM;
In registor address 0x09, the value is be change during operation.
There is a phenomenon that "0x22" is arbitrarily set in the humidity offset register at address 0x09, and it returns to "0x00" irregularly.

Question;
Do you know the cause and solution?
And, if you know the same case, please let us know it.

Best regards,
ACGUY

  • Hi ACGUY,,

    To summarize your findings, you are noticing an offset in humidity readings, is this correct?  Is the value you listed the delta noticed, the 60%RH value?

    Can you provide me with any procedure that you are performing when using the EVM GUI? (This includes register modifications, or button presses)

    Can you provide me with a screen capture of the GUI when the issue is presented?

    Best Regards,

    Matt

  • Hi Matt,

    I will let you know after confirmation them.
    So, I obtained Humidity data that measured by customer, please see it.

    ACGUY

  • Hi ACGUY,

    Yes, please confirm my questions, and thanks for posting the data measured by the customer.

    For the HDC2010:
    "Recommended humidity operating range is 20 to 80% RH (non-condensing) over 0 to 60°C. Prolonged operation beyond these ranges
    may result in a shift of sensor reading, with slow recovery time." - page 5 of DS

    Therefore, it is possible that the customer is seeing an issue if the device exceeds these recommended operating conditions, however, I'm not entirely sure if this is the case as it seems to deviate before surpassing the recommended range.

    Please also verify, and send a screen capture of the register phenomenon you are noticing.

    Best Regards,
    Matt
  • Hi Matt,

    I have some update.
    1;
    Customer's Two EVMs were malfunction happened at during evaluating.

    Evaluation items
     : Humidity cycle
     : Heat cycle

    2;
    Please see the attached files.
     :png
              GUI graph view with EVM.
     :zip
              Red squares. Points the value of register changes arbitrarily.
     :excel
              Log data output.
    Measure in paper bag.
    Address 0x04 and 0x09, them register value are frequent to change.

    Is it simply failure? or malfanction for device?
    Do you know the means to correct it?

    Regards,
    ACGUY

  • Hi ACGUY,

    May I know the exact test conditions to obtain the data?  It sounds like the experiment consisted of readings of the sensor within a paper bag, is that correct?  This may not create uniform humidity environment, so I wouldn't expect a constant reading.  You will need equipment, such as a humidity chamber if you wish to verify the accuracy of the device.

    As for the register information, have you been writing to either of the registers, or just register reads?  It may be best to capture your steps in a word document with screen captures so I can better understand your procedure that is affecting these registers.

    Best Regards,

    Matt

  • Do you think that paper bags have the ability to instantaneously lower humidity?
    The reason why I used paper bags is to cancel the influence of the wind.
    I enclosed the calibrated hygrometer and EVM in a paper bag . Calibrated hygrometer shows a certain value.

    I will make a new thread about this issue.
  • Hi ACGUY,

    Can you share you experiment and procedure, or have you shown this in a new thread?

    Best Regards,
    Matt
