AWR1243: How to load AWR1243 firmware in mmwave studio when using DCA1000 capture card?

Part Number: AWR1243
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: , MMWAVE-STUDIO

Hi team,

How to load AWR1243 ES2.0 firmware in mmwave studio when using DCA1000 capture card? Which firmware should be selected?

I had try firmware in C:\ti\mmwave_studio_01_00_00_00\rf_eval_firmware\.

But SPI connection always failed.

Also, i had try devpack+AWR1243BOOST, it works with the firmware in C:\ti\mmwave_dfp_01_00_00_01\rf_eval\rf_eval_firmware

I need your help to clarify which firmware should be used when using DCA1000 to capture AWR1243BOOST RAW data.

By the way, I had try flash the AWR1243 with BSS/MSS/memswap bin, and DCA1000 can be used to capture ADC data in this case.

Thanks for your help.

Regards,

Wesley

  • Hello Wesley,
While using AWR1243 in SOP-2 mode with mmWave Studio , you need to erase the sFlash of the device then only it will able to connect over SPI.

So format the sFlash of the device before connecting in SOP-2 mode then download the firmware files from the same path you have mentioned.

    Jitendra
  • Hi Wesley,

Also, please ensure that the SOP mode jumpers are physically set on the EVM. With the DCA1000, they can no longer be controlled from software.

    Best Regards,
    Anand
  • Hi Anand,

All the step you mentioned is already did. But the SPI connection still failed.
    The output is shown below.
I need your help to clarify which firmware should be used when using DCA1000 to capture AWR1243BOOST RAW data.
    Thanks.

  • Hi Wesley,
I don't know if you have missed my point of suggestion to erase sFlash of Device (in SOP-5) and put back EVM in SOP-2 jumper then try connecting SPI.

Firmware path you are selecting is correct one (rf_eval_firmware).

    Jitendra
  • Hi Jitendra,

I had follow the steps you had mention. erase QSPI flash first, then using mmwave studio to load the firmware. But it doesn't work on 1243 platform.

I had try to flash BSS/MSS/CONFIG firmware first then using Functional mode. In mmwave studio, SPI connection works. So the hardware should be good.

    Wesley
  • Hello Wesley,
    As you have mentioned -
'Also, i had try devpack+AWR1243BOOST, it works with the firmware in C:\ti\mmwave_dfp_01_00_00_01\rf_eval\rf_eval_firmware'

This is also valid firmware to use to capture with DCA1000. So, you can use this as well.

Ideally both of the firmware should be same.

    Regards,
    Jitendra
  • Got it.

I will test it and give you a feedback.

    Thanks.
  • Hi Wesley,
As you have mentioned in 1st post that in SOP-2 mode it works DFP1.0 rf_eval FW. And DFP 1.0 rf_eval FW are same as mmWave-Studio ‘rf_eval_firmware’.
You can use even DFP rf_eval FW to work with mmWave-Studio.

    Jitendra
