AWR1642: The overshoot currnt in 1642 board 12V input

Part Number: AWR1642
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIDA-01570

Hello Champion,
My customer is refering the schematics in TIDA-01570 which use power solution LM536253Q + LP87702D + TPS7A5201Q + AWR1642. Do we test the overshoot current on 12V input when the radar is turned on? The customer tested a radar which have 30~50A overshoot peak current on 12V input when radar is turned on, so they want to know this value on TI's board.

Thanks,
Adam

  • Hello Adam,
We have not done the direct measurements on the 12V rails but our peak power (worst case) of the AWR device itself is <4.9W , which is only 0.41 A current at 12V supply. There would be additional current based on the efficiency of the PMIC used, but it would still be less than 0.6A or so.
Its no where close to the 30-50A.

    Regards,
    Vivek
