TMP708: whether the device can be used to sense 0°C?

Part Number: TMP708
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMP303, LM57

Hi team,

My customer wants to use the TMP708, but they want to set the Trip point=0°, so based on the hysteresis=10°, so the OT=1 triger point is -10°.

But you know the device can only detect 0~120°, and the resistor also has some error, whether the device can be used like this to sense 0°C?

Thanks.

  • Hi Frank,

TMP708 temperature error is not specified below 60C. We do not recommend using TMP708 for set points below 60C. Additionally, TMP708 functions as an high-side alert. If configured for 0C, it would assert OT pin for all temperatures greater than 0C.

Have you considered TMP303? This temperature switch is a window comparator. It will assert OUT pin when temperature is below 0C or above 60C, for example. See additional variants.

If you want to assert when temperature is above 0C, LM57 can be configured for this purpose.

    Thanks,

    Ren
