DCA1000EVM: Streams output in real time with DCA1000

Hi,

I have a IWR1642EVM connected to the DCA1000 working for capture a sample of data.
Now I want to have a continus stream of data (raw data and processed one).

Is it possible ? (when I bought the DCA1000 I was thinking it was possible because of the mention of "Streams output in real time through 1-Gbps Ethernet")

And so I'm confused on how to do that.

Nils,

The DCA1000 is used to stream out raw data only. This capture card does not send out processed data over Ethernet. Only the raw ADC data is sent over Ethernet. The raw ADC data is stored as a .bin file once the capture process is completed.

Hi Nils,

In mmwave studio, by settting number of frames to 0 and you'll get continuous stream.

Yes, changing this setting in mmwave Studio will result in the device continuously chirping. But please keep in mind that mmWave Studio will automatically trigger a timeout on the raw data capture process.

Hi,
I am working on the IWR1642/IWR1443 EVMs and I am in the process of procuring a DCA1000 for the raw adc data capture. Meanwhile , is it possible for you to share a sample data for a predefined scenario ? I need few frames to basically do the post processing script for some plots visualization while waiting for the capture card to arrive. Thank you.

So the DCA1000 will continu to send the raw data through the Ethernet port right ?

And mmWave Studio trigger this timeout to limit the size of the created file right ?

Nils,

Once mmWave Studio triggers the timeout, the IWR1642 will continue to send and receive chirps. However, this data will not be captured by the DCA1000 and streamed out over Ethernet.

Is it possible to avoid to trigger the IWR1642 ?

Just have a continus stream over Ethernet ?

Nils,

As I stated in an earlier post, mmWave Studio will automatically trigger a timeout on the data capture stream out process over Ethernet. At this time, continuous streaming over Ethernet is not an available feature.

Nils,

With the DCA1000 and mmWave Studio, TI has enabled raw ADC capture of our AWR/IWR devices. You are not capturing post-processed data. Since mmWave Studio is our RF evaluation tool, it was not designed to capture data indefinitely. There are no tricks or ways to bypass this.

Nils,

This description is correct. The DCA1000 enables the mmWave device to stream out raw unprocessed ADC data in real time over the LVDS protocol, a high speed protocol that requires up to a 1 Gbps transfer rate. The DCA1000 then sends out this raw ADC data over 1 Gbps Ethernet which is then captured by the host PC in a .bin file that can be processed using MATLAB.
