IWR6843: Is the IWR6843 suitable to detect items between 20mm and 500 mm?

Would the IWR6843 60GHz sensor solution also working for very close objects detection in a deepness between 20 mm and approx. 500-600 mm. distance. Ideal would be  to cover same time a width of 800 - 1.000 mm space. 

How is it working when different materials will reflect the signal, including pet-bottlew with liwuirds of different colors, or metal and metallic surfaces.

    Minimum distance: The minimum measurements distance for the 6843 is about 4.9 cm. Below this distance, you may still be able to detect objects but the accuracy of the measurements degrades due to near range effects such as multiple reflections (between the object and the sensor), TX/RX coupling etc.

    Maximum distance: The sensor can detect objects up to 100+ meters so 50 - 60 cm is not a problem. TI mmWave sensors can achieve accuracies of the order of 1mm or even better. Please look at TI's high accuracy range measurement demo available under mmWave Industrial Toolbox.

    The type of target(s) to be detected is quantified as the RCS (Radar Cross Section) value which is a measure of the target’s ability to reflect Radar Signals in the direction of the radar receiver. The RCS depends upon the type of material, shape, size and surface etc.  e.g. water and metal are strong reflectors, while paper, cardboard, cloth etc are weak reflectors. Depending upon the material, you should be able to detect plastic bottles with and without liquids but Radar cannot differentiate between colors of liquids as it is not a vision based technology.
