DRV5033: Sensitivity

Part Number: DRV5033

Hi team,

I have a few questions on magnatic sensitity of hall sensors:

1. What's the definetion of it?

2. How is the spec impact our design? Say I want to design a knob with magnatic field. How should choose which sensitivity range I need?

  Thanks.

  • Hi Patrick,

Sensitivity is the gain of a sensor and it determines the sensor's resolution. Higher gains are useful for resolving smaller input signals in the presence of noise, but making the gain too high will cause the sensor output to saturate for inputs that are within the range you're trying to measure. Selecting the optimal value of sensitivity maximizes SNR and guarantees that your sensor does not saturate over your full-scale input range.

I would recommend reviewing the resources listed on the following page for a more detailed coverage of hall sensor basics and their application to designing position sensing systems.

    Best Regards,

    Harsha
