Hello Julia,

Most of the 3904 are compatible with one another, however it is strongly advised to check the specifications of the transistor of your choice to the 2N3904. Also as mentioned in the post, the η-characterstic may not be the same and some level of bench testing may need to be done to identify the transistors ideality factor.

Can you suggest what parameter should I care about when read the Transistor datasheet？ what can affect the η-characteristic of a transistor, thanks!

Hello Julia,

There is no direct parameter which can be used for the η-characteristic of a transistor. It is a mathematical model that needs to be estimated. The following application note may help you in identifying how to compute the η-correction.
