LDC1614EVM: Connect an External Coil

Hello Forum,

I hope this message finds you all well.

I have a LDC1614EVM. I have seen on the datasheet that I am able to connect my own coil for different application. When this was done, I couldn't get stable results. Can you please point in the datasheet a procedure or how-to that helps me understand how I can connect my coil. I know that I need to have a capacitance also with the coil but I don't know which capacitance and whether that should go in parallel?

Can you please let me know which section of the datasheet that describes the coil inductance value that I can connect and the capacitance. If no, can you plese help me to know how to do it ?

Akram,

If you have a sensor, then choose a capacitor so that your frequency is in the correct range. You will need to measure the inductance of your sensor to do this.

fsensor = 1/(2*PI*sqrt(L*C))

The capacitor should be connected in parallel with the sensor inductance.

After that, follow this app note to select the correct drive current:

Thank you very much for your reply. that is very very very helpful.

One last question please: when you mentioned the frequency should be within the range: Which range? do you mean the Deglitch Frequency or another range? How would I know that my sensor frequency is within the range.

The frequency range is in the datasheet specifications as fsensor - Sensor Frequency Range. For the LDC1614, this is from 1kHz to 10MHz.
