Hello

AWR1243 allows beamforming using phase shift (for Tx).

1) 1LSB =5 degrees ( as per the info from TI) -> does it mean the entire phase shift is done in digital domain at baseband ?

AT MIMO, I know the algo is fairly complex to generate digital phase shifts using NCO and they use hybrid beamforming for this. (But at 77 Ghz, it is not expected to do analog domain phase shifter)

Please enlighten on this. What if I need to generate phase shift <5 degrees ?

2) Also is it possible to use APIs for AWR1243Boost because I heard the mmwaveSDK is only for 1443 and not 1243.

Hi,

Please not that AWR1243P supports phase shifting. AWR1243 does not.

You are correct, the mmwave SDK supports 1443 and 1642 because these platforms include programmable cores.

AWR1243/P does not include a programmable core. It can only be configured with the mmwave link APIs

These APIs are described in the Radar Interface Document included in the Device Firmware Package

So the tx0, tx1 phase shift given under sensorconfig of mmwave studio are for the 1243P board ??
The phase shift is completely done in the digital domain ?? How is it done??

What is the reason for Tx and Rx array ?
The Rx array is only separated by lambda/2 so thats not for diversity also I guess ?

2) Also is there any specific reason for the asymmetrical Design in Tx and Rx array
In terms of the spacing and the number in the array ?

Hi

Please see TIDEP 1001 TI Design guide for a description of the antenna.

The layout of antenna allows to use MIMO with an array of 8 virtual Rx antenna in azimuth.

The asymmetrical design allows to get elevation information

There was a typo

I meant TIDEP 1011

It uses the AWR1843BOOST EVM. This is the same antenna layout as AWR1243
