LDC1612EVM: Sensing Solutions EVM GUI v1.10.0 streaming data with unexpected data randomly

Part Number: LDC1612EVM

Just received my LDC1612EVM and gave a quick test with the Sensing Solutions EVM GUI.

Test conditions: All default, no firmware update, no register and configuration modification.

Test Result: When I switch to the steaming data tab and start the streaming,  Channel 0 data always indicates with unexpected large number as following. Channel 1 looks normal.

The EVM board is just put on a workbench without any metal material close to.

  • Forgot to mention that the testing OS was Windows 7 x64 of an VMware machine running on MacBook Pro.
This issue was not found when tested on another physical Windows 10 PC.
But still has no clue why this happens. Maybe the USB virtual com port speed is not fast enough on a virtual machine? If this is true, why is always Channel 0? Channel 1 works very well.

  • The streaming mode works by continuously sampling all channels, even if they are not actively selected. Perhaps the order of the sampling matters if the virtual com port is not fast enough, which could explain why only channel 0 appears to be effected.

Are you able to use the other physical Windows PC for your evaluation? If the virtual com port is the problem, there is not much we can do to help.
  • This issue is solved by update the LDC1612EVM firmware. That means the virtual port and the OS on VMWare are not the root causes.

But be careful when you perform the upgrading. You may make the EVM device left in BSL mode and it will never return to the normal working mode.

If you encounter this, you may refer to the following post and re-flash the program with a specific msp430 firmware upgrade tool.

  • Excellent, thank you for the update!
