Part Number: OPT3001
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OPT3002, OPT3004, OPT3006, OPT3007

What is the accuracy of an OPT300x part?

  • 1. Calculate the precision percentage by looking at the "Measurement output result" row of the specs table and subtracting the maximum value from the typical value then dividing the result by the typical value. This is your maximum percentage error. Listed below are the calculated measurements for some of our more popular devices:

    a) OPT3001 - 10%
    b) OPT3002 - 10%
    c) OPT3004 - 10%
    d) OPT3006 - 20%
    e) OPT3007 - 20%

    2. If the lux in question is not around 2k, add an additional 2% to the error to account for linearity. This percentage ranges from 40-83k lux but is closer to 2% the further from 2k lux it is. If dealing with lux values less than 40, add 5% instead of 2%.

    3. If operating values are predicted to be significantly different from 25°C, take the difference between the expected temperature and 25, then multiply that value by 0.01. Add this value to the percentage you found above.

    Examples:
Common worst case scenario percentage: OPT3001, expected to measure from 200-20k lux, temperature at 30°C
    10% + 2% + 0.01*(30-25)% = 12.05%

Worst of the worst case percentages: OPT3007, expected to measure from 0-40 lux, temperature at -40°C
    20% + 5% + 0.01*(25+40)% = 25.65%
