Hello,

I am using IWR 1443 to plot the 1 dim rangeProfile (reflectivity relative to distance in front of radar) and I found that when the radar faced with a blank place, a peak appear in the beginning of the plot line.[see below]

since there is nothing (no any object within the detectable range) in front of the radar, the plot should looks like a line near to 0, therefore the peak is unreasonable to exist.

Same thing happens when there is a detected object, this strange peak still appears on the left of the main peak that represent the object.

I already cleaned the radar antennas so it is not due to dirty dust stick on the antenna surface. and I noticed that this nearby peaks also appears in the demo [file:///C:/ti/mmwave_industrial_toolbox_2_5_2/experiments/Detecting+Walls+of+Different+Materials.html]

can you tell me what result in this peaks?

HI,

This peak is created by the signal coupling from TX to the RX chain.

sorry, I still don't know what signal coupling mean in detail here, and weather it is possible to eliminate this coupling.

HI,

You can leverage the "calibDcRangeSig" CLI command that is included in the Out-of-Box Demo. This is to account for the fact that the antenna coupling signature dominates the range bins close to the radar.

You can read more about this in the mmWave SDK User's Guide.

Hi,

thanks for your replying. I read the related issue you shared and the user guide as well. Now I understand this is due to the configuration of "calibDcRangeSig" and how it works. But after my edting the parameters of calibDcRangeSig it still change nothing. im wondering if I configure it in a wrong way.

specifically, the original line in .cfg is calibDcRangeSig 0 -5 8 256. I want to eliminate the conpling in the first 6 bin, so I change it into 1 0 6 256. nothing changed after I resend this cfg. So what is the correct way to achieve my goal of remove channel coupling?

Which demo code you are using? It is supported in the out-of-box demo coming with SDK release.

the 1443 out-of-box demo visualizer didn't provide editing the parameters of calibDcRangeSig. so i download the config to pc and run the demo of plotting 1d rangeProfile. What I want to know is how to specifically edit calibDcRangeSig in correct way to eliminate channel coupling showing in the beginning of range bins.

HI,

You can use the visualizer 2.1 version for 1443. And it does support to load a configuration file from PC. See attached figure, I highlighted the button in red circle. After load the new configuration file you should be able to see a change on the plot of "Range Profile for zero Doppler".

Hi,

thanks for your reply. I managed to remove the signal coupling in range profile using out-of-box demo visualizer according to your instruction. But I still cannot do it in other demos where range Profile is calculated in this way:

the result graph is shown as in the first question.

and I noticed that in visualizer, the y-axis unit is dB. I'm wondering the difference between this two range profile and how to remove coupling in the latter one.

Not all demos support this feature. If you want to implement or add this feature to some existing demo, you can look at the source code of the out of box demo.
