DRV5056: Need Lower Noise

Part Number: DRV5056
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV425

Team,

I have a 20kHz system which results in 18uT of noise coming out of the sensor. This leaves me with a maximum of 158mT that I can measure without saturation... a ratio of 8000. I need to get this ratio to 65,000 in order to measure within 1-2 A/D counts on a 16-bit A/D. Can this chip meet this lower noise requirement or which device would you recommend?

Thank you.

  • Hello,

Thank you for using the TI forum.  In order to reduce noise from this part, you would need reduce bandwidth by adding an RC filter to the output or by averaging samples (or both).  Also, using a 5V supply instead of a 3.3V supply will have lower noise.  So, if you are already using 5V supply and cannot reduce your bandwidth, then this part probably won't work for you.

We do not have any other parts that have such a high mT range with less noise.  Our least noisy (most precise) magnetic sensor is the DRV425, but it only has a full scale range of ±2mT.
