HDC1080: The temperature sensor will be influenced when the humidity sensor is broken.

Part Number: HDC1080
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: HDC1000

When using HDC1000 and 1080 at a high relative humidity environment for a long time, the humidity sensor is broken. Even worse, the temprature sensor also get influnced, and the output is confused.

So my question is :

Why the temperature sensor got influnced when the humidity sensor is broken?

Does the humidity and temperature sensors couple together?

How to deal with this problem?

  • Dear Flora -

    Please see section 9.3.3 here:

and please provide some more detail about what humidity levels you are operating at and what the actual result is which leads you to use the word broken. Also, please comment on if you used the heater as recommended in this usage case. Then more comment can be made about what steps to take based on your usage.

The calculated value which is returned as the humidity measurement (in hex) relies on the temp sensor, but the temp and humidity sensors  are physically  independent.

  • Hi Josh,

If the humidity sensor is under high relative humidity for a long time, and covered by water vapor, will it broke down?

  • Flora -

Please see section 9.3.3 (page 18), Table 10 as previously indicated to see the characterized offset for 85/85 condition between 12 and 500 hours of exposure.
