AWR1843BOOST: Features of AWR radar sensors

Hi,

Can I ask a general question on AWR/IWR radar sensor? I am wondering what the advantages of these mmWave sensors are over other radar sensors on automotive? Such as the Navtech CTS350x FMCW radar (https://navtechradar.com/clearway-technical-specifications/)

I understand that low-cost is certainly feature of TI radar sensors, but I am also wonder if the beam forming mechanism will be a downside, as Navtech CTS350x mechanically rotates (operating like a lidar) to sense around.

Hello ,

It would be good if you could do the comparison by yourself and arrive at the conclusions. You can refer to the datasheet of TI mmWave sensors and compare it with the Navtech radar.

You can find AWR1243, AWR1642 and AWR1843 datasheets and compare the features and the performance of these devices against the NAVTECH radar.

I definitely want to compare them by myself but Navtech radar is too expensive to afford by me. So I ask here to see if anyone did this benchmark profiling.

Anyway, based on documents, I do notice that Navtech radar mechanically rotates its 'z'-aixs to scan around 360 degree, while all TI mmwave boards use beam forming approach to scan objects in a 120 degree view.

Hello Lu,

Your understanding is right TI mmWave sensors do have the 6-bit phase shifters that can be used for TX beamforming.
